We welcome Andrea Vandin who recently joined the Institute of Economics of the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies and EMbeDS as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Computer Science.

By adopting a multi-disciplinary approach, Andrea pursues several lines of research at the intersections of Computer Science and the Social Sciences, Economics, and Biology. His research concerns the development of languages, techniques and tools grounded in rigorous math to foster the modelling and analysis of dynamical systems in various domains.

In this new chapter of his academic career, in connection with the objectives of EMbeDS, Andrea will continue pursuing his goals of making modelling and analysis easier and more efficient, pushing the boundaries of currently manageable models in terms of dimensionality, level of detail, and data-richness. This will be done with a focus on Economics and Social Sciences in the era of big data.

Prior to his appointment at Sant’Anna, he was Assistant and later Associate Professor at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science at the DTU Technical University of Denmark, as well as a Visiting Professor at the IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca, Italy. While in Denmark in 2019, he was awarded a 3.5 years prestigious and competitive Danish grant (DFF RP1 REDUCTO) as PI. At IMT in Lucca, he was an Assistant Professor within the SysMA research unit, as well as a member of the European Project QUANTICOL.

From 2013 to 2015 Andrea was a Senior Research Assistant at the School of Electronics and Computer Science of Southampton University and a Teaching Assistant at Leicester University, UK. He received a PhD in Computer Science and Engineering and the "Doctoral Europeaus" certification from IMT in 2013. He graduated cum laude in Computer Science at the University of Pisa, Italy.
